Dr. Borenstein is a leading Internet scientist responsible for developing several fundamental technologies over the last three decades.
In 1985, while at Carnegie-Mellon, he led the team developing the Andrew Message System, a pioneering multimedia e-mail application. While at Bellcore, he was the primary author of MIME, the multimedia data format used in all e-mail and web browsers today.
In 1994, he was one of four co-founders of First Virtual, the first online payment company. After an initial public offering in 1996, First Virtual Holdings changed its name to MessageMedia (NASDAQ: MESG) in 1998. He is the author of three books, two patents, and numerous articles.
